I AM NOT A POET

I have never considered myself a poet. Therefore, I am not a rival of anyone, and I do not consider anybody my rival

I shoot pictures
pedestrian poetry of pain
searching for godliness
hidden in a grain
the beggar the hijra
the rafaee the hindu
the shia the maryamma devotee
the naga sadhu the christian the sufi
all bound by a single chain
blood sweat and tears
part of a single domain
touching the human soul
without borders or frontiers
like a drop of rain

like filth in a drain
the heart the silent hunter
accursed the thinking brain

a litany of a complain
religiosity of hate

D'Monte Street Bandra
85,142 items / 503,474 views
D'monte street begins from this lane moving in towards Bandra Bazar Road not before a right from here brings you towards Chinchpokli that exits out at Bandra Hioll Road.
Where the lady is sitting selling Rakhis is the road that is called the Jain Mandir Road , right across from her is a tiny lane that takes you to the Jamatkhana ,Lucky Hotel and towards the Bandra Station Road.
Jain Mandir Road has the Shiv Sena Shakha and Dr Parmars clinic and the tailoring material selling shop, Bombay Genral and Bandra thread center.
Also lined on either side are jewelry shops .
Where the Jain Mandir road ends , to the left of it from here is the road towards JJ Colony known as Jamate Jamuriya. On the right the lane touches Ram Mandir Daya Sagar Hanuman Mandir , the Shia Mehfil and heads onwards to Bandra Bazar Road.
Bohra Kids of Bandra Bazar Road
Bohra kids are studious, well disciplined and with a very peace loving demeanor just like their elders, they dont mix around much..keep to their community and their school books
.
The word Bohra itself is derived from the Gujarati word Vehwahar, which is interpreted as "trading".
The Bohra elders who are are shop owners and residents of Bandra Bazar Road go about their work, they are born businessmen.
You wont ever find them in street brawls or ever raising their voice.
Most of the fame shops, hardware and paint shops belong to them.
The undergarments and diaper and kids stuff shop too is owned by a young Bohra.
The oasis of their spirituality is the Badri Mosque at Bandra Bazar Road.
I too have done Matam within the Badri Mosque, a few years back to the chant of Ya Hussain on the birthday of His Holiness Dr Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin..
I was invited there by Akbar Bhai the owner of Something Special and Cheap Jack on Hill Road.
Akbar Bhai has his family house at Bandra Bazar Road and we have been friends since the 80's
The Bohras of Bandra add to the dignity and grace of this nice area , peacful and calm Bandra Bazar Road.
Thanks to the local dynamic Municipal corporator of this area, Rahebar Khan who under his supervision changed all the old crumbling drainage pipes this are did not get flooded as it usually did..
Normally during the early heavy rains you would have to come here in a motor boat..now you can hire the local rickshah.
Yet a lot has to be done as the Bandra Municipal Market at Bandra Bazar Road is the ugliest filthiest market among all the markets of Mumbai.
And our political honchos only come to riase our national flag during Independence day or to beg for votes during the elections.
But if ever Ms Sonia Gandhiji the head of Congress I was to pay a surprise visit here you can believe me, it would be transformed into Napien Sea Road in just a few hours before her arrival.
Both the MP and the local MLA hail from the finer side of Bandra..Pali Hill and Joggers Park respectively.
Rahebar Khan has grown up in Bandra Bazar Road and stays in the same vicinity.

I met Paul Douroux by chance and his comment on Anthony Poseys picture touched me, it was simplicity and sense in a world where critics of photography forget their own surroundings..a picture is not just a piece of technical detail it is much more ..I saw this man sleeping near Bandra and perhaps for a moment I thought I saw myself as I was a incorrigible alcoholic for several years ..so we all read pictures differently.. pictures shot by a man in Mumbai touch the chord of a man anywhere in the world as pain is indivisible , pain has no borders or frontiers..sometimes a comment becomes the story of our blog..
So with due respect to Paul I copy his comment as a tribute to our friendship..on Flickr.

The Bhuta Boy..From Uttar Pradesh
Hold your clicks a moment please...

The bhuta boy is a migrant from UP ..state of Uttar Pradesh in India, he dared to dream so he is here to make something of his life, I was once a fan of Ms Mayawati when she broke through a political challenge to crown herself the indisputable Queen of her State , but of late her narcissistic streak of building her statue and those of other Dalit leaders has put me of , the same money could be used to ease the burden of the poor.
I am sure Dr Ambedkar and Late Mr Kanshi Ram would have thought of the poor , and money spent on their welfare..tributes are sheer form of wastage of the depleted public treasury..
If she made her state self sufficient why would her people rush to try their luck in Mumbai unless it was to become an actor..her love for herself is scary to say the least, statues are built of leaders in the hearts of their people , I hope she realizes it one day .. and the Congress already has a foot in her backyard, .. just a little time more when she will find herself isolated by the very people who bought her to power on the back of a white elephant.
I have seen Lucknow a few years back and I can imagine the Nawabs squirming in their graves..even the Nawbs did not built their statues , they built Imambadas and kept their Faith alive by keeping Hussain alive ...in the ethos of Lucknow..
I was born in the city of Lucknow, it hurts , my maternal grandfather was Daroga Nabban Saab of Pata Nala , descendant of the poet Mir Anis.

Jesus Round the Bend
jesus
once came to earth
to save humanity
as a human
with humans
he did blend
washing away their sins
he did make amends
an olive branch
to his enemies
he did extend
but they wanted
him dead
malicious malcontent
nailed crucified
bitter was his end
to his fathers house
in heaven finally
he did transcend
a message of peace
to all his well wishers
loving friends
he solemnly recommends
Domestic House Arrest
he has been locked in
he was giving it to
another woman
a great mortal sin
his extra marital love life
now in a dustbin
shedding crocodile tears
while his heart burns
he plays the violin
a pain for a goddess
that has killed him
from within
sorrow oozing out
from his soulless skin
caught between his wife
and the other woman
whom he took for a spin
his balls hanging
on a clothesline
held by a safety pin
betrayed love
memories seminal stained
on a bed of a wayside inn
a poetic plea on this web page
to his next of kin

School Memories are Incomplete Without This
This is the hand cart you see close to many a school near Bandra by lanes, this guy is going towards the Marathi Municipal School near Ram Mandir road.
He is a migrant from UP and a very peaceful man, he is part of every childs growing up, every childs school memories linked to the junk that he sold..
Fred Miller in Pune too must have eaten all this which nourished your brains , a wise one told me so.
Our Bhaiyya was a kindly soul outside Holy Name High School Colaba , in the evenings he set up his stall at Strand Road close to my house.
The most notorious kid in our school was a very simple tame looking guy, Anil, he would kill flies crush them and add them to powdered supari and jeera goli and give it to kids who did not know of this prank..
We took nothing from him ever.

Poem inspired by Randall
Now you must be wondering who is this lady of Bandra Reclamation living under the umbrella.
Nobody knows her name , though once she has lived and seen good times , she never moves out from under this umbrella.
A few days back Mumbai had the heaviest rains of this season and she faced it all, I hate shooting her picture , as I have no balls to see her in the eye, she lives more contended than I do..Marziya likes her I give Marziya a tenner and braving the surrounding muck, Marziya goes and hands it over to her.
I want Marziya to understand pain compassion before she learns photography.
I want her to learn humility..she understands it as she watches observantly the traffic beggar kids at Linking Road from the rickshah.
They all love Marziya .
So I shoot wild orchids on the road, I dont belittle people who shoot flowers ., insects , gardens I dont think I could shoot this at all..and it is not necessary you shoot what I shoot but do try to shoot a tear from a child's eye , waiting for his next meal and you will know what I mean.
I was not into beggar photography but pain is cinematic too , it requires a very large canvas , and though it is not my genre it is part and parcel of what I call street photography.
The umbrella lady has survived many a rainy season , waters in my area have been waist high last year , but she was always there the next morning, I have never seen her standing up, I dont know how she answers the call of nature ..
But tell me honestly who the fuck really cares a fart about her ..will electronic media ever cover the stories that I shave shot with a defective still camera,,
Blogging is not about words its about adding soul it is about adding humanity to the silence of the lamb- the photo blog..
Media , journos gun for our ass , We have no editorial constrains we dont have to go under the editors desk to give him head , if he had a good head he would not be allowing the shit that is palmed of us as photo journalism, in the morning newspapers , oops forgive me I almost puked over the Times of India.
Give a new kid with a camera a chance - I have said this earlier too, to get even with the arrogance of a photo journalist God created the camera in the mobile phone....ha ha ha
Marziya will start shooting pictures much before she is 2 and half years old...Marziya has already learnt the first few chapters of Unlearning Photography..
I have kept the Nikon F100 for her and a Fuji film too.
Lucknowi Zaika
This morning wife served Besan ki roti , that had coriander, ajwain, onion , red chillies stuffed in it, the chutney was made out of lasson , garlic , green chilly..
Some of the dishes wife makes have been enjoyed by the furious physician Dr Glenn Losack MD when he visited my house..
Valdimir Mouveau my French friend and Marc de Clercq my Belgian friend ,too have liked my wife's dishes.
The other dishes wife makes our Lucknowi Dum Biryani, Thehri,Khichdi, Khichda, gilawat ke kebab , and various types of dals and jeera rice too.
Baigan ka bharta is a speciality too..
Chicken is a daily feature , sometimes meat , but we dont eat beef at all.
Keema or mince is somtimes a farefor breakfast , sometimes she makes Idli sambar too..much better than what is served at an Udipi Restaurant..
We dont eat bread , rice and chapatis are the staple diet.
Wife also makes fish- Rawas , Promfret , Surmai Bombay ducks.. she does not like Bangda, prawns too she makes with spinach.
She was taught all this by my late mother Shamim Shakir.
Now my wife enjoys the food made by both my daughter in laws one from Lucknow the other from Mumbai.
I learnt cooking when I worked in Muscat in the early 80s , but it was more Malyali style as I worked with people from Kerala at a place called Tecodev owned by Dr Hamed Al Riyami..at Muttrah.

Lord Ashtavinayaka
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ashtavinayaka
According to Shastra, first you have to visit Moreshwar of Moregaon. Then visit Siddhatek, Pali, Mahad, Theur, Lenyandri, Ozar, Ranjangaon and then again Moregaon will end you Ashtavinayak Yatra.
Some of these murtis are called Swayambhu effigies, or the self-existent in Sanskrit. This is to indicate that no human created these murtis, they were found completely formed by nature.
[edit] Shri Mayureshwar
This is the most important temple on this tour. The temple, built from black-stone during the Bahamani reign, has four gates (It is supposed to have been built by one of the knights named Mr. Gole, from the court of Bidar's Sultan). The temple is situated in the centre of the village. The temple is covered from all sides by four Minarets and gives feeling of a mosque if seen from a distance. This may have been done to prevent attacks on the temple during Mughal periods. The temple has 50feet tall wall around it.
Shri Mayureshwar, Morgaon
There is a Nandi (Shiva's bull mount) sitting in front of this temple entrance, which is unique, as Nandi is normally in front of only Shiva temples. However, the story says that this statue was being carried to some Shivamandir during which the vehicle carrying it broke down and the Nandi statue could not be removed from its current place.
The murti of Lord Ganesha, riding a peacock, in the form of Mayureshwara is believed to have slain the demon Sindhu at this spot. The idol, with its trunk turned to the left, has a cobra (Nagaraja) poised over it protecting it. This form of Ganesha also has two other murtis of Siddhi (Capability) and Buddhi (Intelligence).
However, this is not the original murti -which is said to have been consecrated twice by Brahma, once before & once after being destroyed by the asura Sindhurasur. The original murti, smaller in size and made of atoms of sand, iron, and diamonds, was supposedly enclosed in a copper sheet by the Pandavas and placed behind the one that is currently worshiped.
The temple is situated at a distance of 55 km from Pune, next to the river Karha in the village of Moregaon. The village derives its name from the Marathi name of the bird peacock - also the national bird of India; there used to be a lot of peacocks in this village in the ancient time, and the village is also set out in the shape of a peacock.
[edit] Shri Siddhivinayak
God Vishnu is supposed to have vanquished the asuras Madhu and Kaitabh after propitiating Ganesha here.
This is the only murti of these eight with the trunk positioned to the right.
Shri Siddhi Vinayak, Siddhatek
It is believed that the two saints Shri Morya Gosavi and Shri Narayan Maharaj of Kedgaon received their enlightenment here.
The temple is North-facing and is on a small hillock. The main road towards the temple was believed to built by Peshwa's general Haripant Phadake. The inner sanctum, 15 feet high and 10 feet wide is built by Punyashloka Ahilyabai Holkar. The idol is 3feet tall and 2.5feet wide. The idol faces North-direction. The stomach of the murti is not wide, but Riddhi and Siddhi murtis are sitting on one thigh. This murti's trunk is turning to the right. The right-sided-trunk Ganesha is supposed to be very strict for the devotees. To make one round (pradakshina) around the temple one has to make the round trip of the hillock. This takes about 30 minutes with moderate speed.
Peshwa general Haripant Phadake lost his General's position and did 21 Pradakshina around the temple. On the 21st day Peshwa's court-man came and took him to the court with royal honor. Haripant promised the God that he will bring the stones of the castle which he will win from the first war he will fight as the general. The stone pathway is built from the Badami-Castle which was attacked by Haripant soon after he became the general.
This temple is situated off the Pune-Solapur highway about 48 km from the town of Srigonda in Ahmadnagar district. The temple is situated next to Bhima river. On Pune-Solapur railway, Daund Railway station is 18Km from here.
[edit] Shri Ballaleshwar
Main article: Ballaleshwar Pali
Ganesha is believed to have saved his boy-devotee, Ballala, who was beaten by local villagers and his father (Kalyani-seth) for his single-minded devotion to him.
Shri Ballaleshwar, Pali
The original wooden temple was reconstructed in to a stone temple by Nana Phadanavis in 1760. There are two small lakes constructed on two sides of the temple. One of them is reserved for the puja (worship) of the Deity.
This Temple faces the east and has two sanctums. The inner one houses the murti and has a Mushika (Ganesha's mouse vahana) with modaka in his forepaws in front of it. The hall, supported by eight exquisitely carved pillars demands as much attention as the idol, sitting on throne carved like a Cyprus tree. The eight pillars depict the eight directions. Inner sanctum is 15 feet tall and outer one is 12 feet tall. The temple is constructed in such a way that after the winter (dakshinayan : southward movement of the sun) solstice, the sun rays fall on the Ganesha murti at sunrise. The temple is built with stones which are stuck together very tight using melted lead.
Like a few other murtis, this one has diamonds embedded in the eyes and navel, and with His trunk pointing to the left.
One speciality of this temple is that the prasad offered to this Ganapati at Pali is Besan Laadu instead of Modak that is normally offered to other Ganapatis.
The shape of the idol itself bears a striking semblance with the mountain which forms the backdrop of this temple. This is more prominently felt if one views the photograph of the mountain and then sees the idol.
The temple is located in the town of Pali, off the Mumbai-Pune highway, about 11 km before Nagothane on the Mumbai-Goa highway. This is located 30Km to the South-West of Karjat Railway Station. Mumbai-Panvel-Khopoli-Pali is 124Km. Pune-Lonavla-Khopoli-Pali is 111Km.
Behind this temple is the temple of Shri Dhundi-Vinayak which is West facing. This is a very rare idol which is facing the West. The story says that this idol was the same one which was thrown by Ballala's father (Kalyani-seth) while Ballala was worshipping it.
Another legend goes that Dhundi Vinayak is the elder brother of Ballal Vinayak and hence it seems that the devotees first worship Shri Dhundi-Vinayak and then Shri Ballaleshwar.
[edit] Shri Varadavinayak
Shri Varada Vinayak, Mahad
Main article: Varadvinayak
The handsome Prince Rukmangad refused sage Vachaknavi's wife Mukunda's illicit call, and was cursed to suffer from leprosy. Mukunda was satisfied by Indra who deceived her as Rukmangad and she bore a child by name Grutsamad. When Grutsamad came to know about the real story he cursed his mother Mukunda to become the tree of Bori and she in turn cursed him to bore a demon son named Tripurasur, the one who was defeated by Shiva after praying the Ranjangaon Ganesha. Grutsamad after getting cursed went to the forest of Pushpak and worshipped Ganesha. Sage Grutsamad is famous for the mantra GaNanaN Tva. He founded the temple and called this Ganesha: Varada-Vinayak.
Ganesha is said to reside here in the form of Varada Vinayaka, the giver of bounty and success. The idol was found in the adjoining lake (to Mr. Dhondu Paudkar in 1690AD), in an immersed position and hence its weathered look. In 1725AD the then Kalyan subhedar, Mr. Ramji Mahadev Biwalkar built the Varadavinayak temple and the village of Mahad.
The idol faces the east, has its trunk to the left and has been in the constant company of an oil lamp - said to be burning continuously since 1892. There are 4 elephant idols on 4 sides of the temple. the hall is 8feet by 8feet. The dome is 25feet high and is golden at the top. The dome has designs of cobra.
This is the only temple where devotees are allowed to personally pay their homage and respects to the idol. They are allowed in the immediate vicinity of this idol to perform their prayers.
The temple is located three kilometers off the Pune-Mumbai highway near Khopoli (80 km from Pune), and is thus closest to Mumbai city. Karjat Railway Station, Karjat on Mumbai-Pune railway is 24Km from this place and 6Km from Khopoli.
[edit] Shri Chintamani
Shri Chintamani, Theur
Ganesha is believed to have got back the precious Chinatamani jewel from the greedy Guna for sage Kapila at this spot. However, after bringing back the jewel, sage Kapila put it in Vinayaka's (Ganesha's) neck. Thus the name Chintamani Vinayak. This happened under the Kadamb tree, therefore Theur is known as Kadambanagar in old times.
The lake behind the temple is called Kadambteertha. The temple entrance is North facing. The outer wooden hall is built by Peshwas. The main temple is supposed to have been built by Dharanidhar Maharaj Dev from the family-lineage of Shri Moraya Gosavi. He must have built this around 100 years before Senior Shrimant Madhavrao Peshwa built the outer wooden hall.
This idol also has a left trunk, with carbuncle and diamonds as its eyes. The idol faces the East side.
Theur's Chintamani was the main worshipped god of Senior Shrimant Madhavrao Peshwa. He suffered from tuberculosis and died at a very young age (~27years). He is supposed to have died in this temple. His wife, Ramabai went as Sati with him on 18 November 1772.
The temple is located 22 km from Pune, off the Pune-Solapur highway, and is hence the nearest from Pune. The village of Theur sits at the confluence of three major regional rivers—Mula, Mutha & Bhima.
[edit] Shri Girijatmaj
Shri Girijatmaj, Lenyadri
It is believed that Parvati (Shiva's wife) performed penance to beget Ganesha at this point. Girija's (Parvati's) Atmaj (son) is Girijatmaj. This temple stands amidst a cave complex of 18 caves of Buddhist origin. This temple is the 8th cave. These are called Ganesh-leni as well. The temple is carved out of a single stone hill, which has 307 steps. The temple features a wide hall with no supporting pillars. The temple hall is 53feet long, 51feet wide and 7feet in height.
The idol faces north with its trunk to the left, and has to be worshipped from the rear of the temple. The temple faces south. This idol seems to be little different from the rest of the Ashtavinayak idols in a sense that it appears to be not very well designed or carved like the other idols. This idol can be worshipped by anyone. There is no electric bulb in the temple. The temple is constructed such that during the day it is always lighted up by the sun-rays!
The entry fee to this temple is 5Rs. for Indian citizens and 2USD for Foreign nationals.
The temple is situated 12 km from Narayangaon, which is about 94 km from Pune on the Pune-Nashik highway. Nearest railway station is Talegaon. From Junnar, Lenyadri is about 5Km. Shivaneri castle is close by (5 to 6Km) where Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was born.
[edit] Shri Vighnahar
Shri Vighneshwar Vinayak, Ozhar
The history encompassing this idol states that Vighnasur, a demon was created by the King of Gods, Indra to destroy the prayer organized by King Abhinandan. However, the demon went a step further and destroyed all vedic, religious acts and to answer the people's prayers for protection, Ganesh defeated him. The story goes on to say that on being conquered, the demon begged and pleaded with Ganesha to show a mercy. Ganesha then granted in his plea, but on the condition that demon should not go to the place where Ganesha worshipping is going on. In return the demon asked a favour that his name should be taken before Ganesha's name, thus the name of Ganesha became Vighnahar or Vighneshwar (Vighna in Sanskrit means a sudden interruption in the ongoing work due to some unforeseen, unwarranted event or cause). The Ganesha here is called Shri Vighneshwar Vinayak.
The temple faces east and is surrounded by a thick stone wall. One can walk on the wall. The main hall of the temple is 20feet long and the inner hall is 10feet long. This idol, facing the east, has its trunk towards the left and rubies in its eyes. There is a diamond on the forehead and some jewel in the navel. Idols of Riddhi and Siddhi are placed on the two sides of the Ganesha idol. The temple top is Golden and is possibly built by Chimaji Appa after defeating the Portuguese rulers of Vasai and Sashti. The temple is probably built around 1785AD.
This temple is located just off the Pune-Nashik Highway, in the town of Ozhar. It is enclosed on all sides by high stone walls, and its pinnacle is made of gold. The temple is situated on the banks of river Kukadi. Via Mumbai-Thane-Kalyan-Bapsai-Saralgaon-Otur, Ozhar is 182Km.
[edit] Shri Mahaganapati
Shri Mahaganapti, Ranjangaon
Shiva is believed to have worshipped Ganesha before fighting the demon Tripurasura here. The temple was built by Shiva where he worshipped Ganesha, and the town he set up was called Manipur which is now known as Ranjangaon.
The idol faces the east, is seated in a cross-legged position with a broad forehead, with its trunk pointing to the left. It is said that the original idol is hidden in the basement, having 10 trunks and 20 hands and is called Mahotkat, however, the temple authorities deny existence of any such idol.
Constructed so that the rays of the sun fall directly on the idol (during the Southward movement of the sun), the temple bears a distinct resemblance to the architecture reminiscent of the 9th and 10th Centuries and faces the east. Shrimant Madhavrao Peshwa used to visit this temple very often and built the stone sanctum around the idol and in 1790AD Mr. Anyaba Dev was authorised to worship the idol.
The temple is situated 50 km from Pune on the Pune-Ahmednagar highway in the village of Ranjangaon.
Ganesha Mantra
www.iloveindia.com/spirituality/gods/ganesha/special-mant...
Ganesha Mantras are known as Siddhi Mantra (the one with perfection). Each and every mantra is full of energy and power of Lord Ganesha. It is believed that mantras of Ganesha, when chanted with genuine devotion, give positive results. These mantras ward off all trials and troubles gracing the devotee with every success. All mantras are disclosed by the Almighty, through the Intelligence, Vision and Experience of the divinely illuminated and perfected sages and men of integral God-Experience.
Ganesha is the power of knowledge, success and fulfillment. It is believed that people get benefit out of these mantras when chanted with utmost devotion and faith. Success is not far when you have love and respect, faith and understanding, kindness and willpower in your heart and when you are in touch with that power which breaks up all restrictions, obstacles, problems ,difficulties and makes available to you the rays of success, prosperity and abundance. Some such Mantras are given below for the spiritual benefit of the readers -
* Aum Shri Ganeshaya Namah
"Praise to Lord Ganesha". This is the mantra of prayer, love and adoration. It is chanted to get Ganesha's blessings for the positive starting of a project, work or simply to offer him the praise.
* Aum Gan Ganapatye Namah
This is Lord Ganesha's mula ("root") mantra .It is also known as his ''beej'' Mantra. This mantra is used for Yoga Sadhana in which we pray to Lord Ganesha and merge ourself with the supreme knowledge and peace. This is a mantra from Ganapati Upanishad. One can always use it before starting any new venture so that success comes without any hassle.
* Aum Vakratundaya Hum
This is a powerful mantra from Ganesha Purana. When things are not in your favour, or when the minds of the people turn negative, depressed or discouraged, the attention of Ganesha may be drawn by this mantra to straighten their ways. The HUM symbolizes "Delay no more, my Lord, in straightening the paths of the crooked-minded ones." This mantra is used many a times in the Ganesha Purana to reduce the violence of cruel demons. In addition, this mantra could also be used for healing any spinal problem, such as curvature of the spine or curved limbs. Dedicate 1,008 repetitions of this holy word to straighten and heal such deficiencies.
* Aum Kshipra Prasadaya Namah
Kshipra means immediate. If some danger or negative energy is coming your way and you don't know how to get rid of that danger, with true devotion, practice this mantra for quick blessing and purification of one's aura.
* Aum Shrim Hrim Klim Glaum Gam Ganapataye vara varada sarva janamme vashamanaya svaha
There are several beej (seed) mantras in this mantra. Among other things, it says, "Shower Your blessings, O Lord. I offer my ego as an oblation."
* Aum Sumukhaya Namah
This mantra has a lot of meaning, in simple terms, it means you will be always very beautiful in soul, in spirit, in face, everything. By meditating on this mantra, very pleasing manners and a beauty comes on you. Along with that comes peace, which constantly works in your eyes; and the words you speak are all filled with that power of love.
* Aum Ekadantaya Namah
Ekadanta refers to one tusk in the elephant face, which means God broke the duality and made you to have a complete one-pointed mind. Whoever has that oneness of mind and single-minded devotion will achieve everything.
* Aum Kapilaya Namah
Kapila (red) means that you are able to give colour therapy. You are able to create colours around yourself and around others, soak them in that colour and heal them. As per the mantra you create, so will you create the colors. Another meaning is "wish cow," the "cow of plenty." It means that whatever you wish, that comes true. There is a wish-cow inside you. Whatever you wish, especially for curing others, comes true instantly.
* Aum Gajakarnikaya Namah
The ears of Ganesha, the elephant - god, are constant fanning, which means people can talk a lot, but you are not receiving inside anything other than what is important. It also means that you can sit anywhere and tune this celestial tube (the body) with seven channels (chakras) and all 72,000 nadis, to any loka and be able to hear ancestors, angels, the voice of God or the voice of prophets. That kind of inner ear you will develop through this mantra.
* Aum Lambodaraya Namah
This means you feel that you are this universe. It means that all the celestial bodies are within you. Like an entire tree is in the seed, the whole universe is in the sound of creation, which is Aum, and that Aum consciousness in you makes you feel that you are the universe. Therefore, if you say, realizing the oneness with the universe, "shanti to the world" every day, then the grace of God will come and there will be world peace, universal peace. It is the universe within Aum and Aum within you.
* Aum Vikataya Namah
This means realizing this world as a dream or a drama. When you are in that high consciousness, this whole world looks like a dream. All of us have taken a role. We have to play our role in life as wife or husband or children or citizens, all consistent with the role we have taken. When an actor bitten by a sponge cobra that is brought on the stage falls, the entire audience cries; but that boy who has fallen knows it was not a real cobra and he is not dead. Life is a drama --definitely life in this material world, this physical world of ego, is a drama. But inside, like the boy on the stage who is quite happy knowing that he didn't die by the bite of the sponge cobra, like that, the truth never dies in us; it is immortal. So everything else you consider as drama. That consciousness comes to you by knowing this mantra.
* Aum Vighna Nashanaya Namah
This mantra invokes the Lord Ganesha to remove every hindrance in your life and in your works. By constant meditation on this mantra, all obstacles and blocked energy in your physical and cosmological bodies are released.
* Aum Vinayakaya Namah
Vinayaka is the name of Ganesha in the golden age. So by realizing this mantra, your life will have a golden age. In your office, in your work, you'll be the boss. Vinayaka means something under control. Vinayaka means the Lord of resolving problems.
* Aum Ganadhyakshaya Namah
This mantra is very important. Suppose you have a group, a country, neighbours, or any kind of group therapy, group healing or a whole country requiring healing, then you have to bring that entire group to your mind's arena and say this mantra. A group healing takes place by this mantra.
* Aum Bhalachandraya Namah
In Sanskrit, bhala means the forehead center. Chandra means the crescent moon. Bhalachandra means that chakra from where the nectar drips. That is the secret of all healing. It is to feel yourself as Shiva, identifying yourself with the Truth and feeling constantly that you are carrying the crescent moon, the symbol of growth and nectar of peace.
Power of Holistic Healing - Inter Faith.
Lal Bagh Cha Raja is the the Ganesha lucky mascot of Mumbai, and those that are his devotees , want this replica for their pandals..and Lal Bagh Cha Raja is the magic that works , bringing happiness to those who invoke him..this is Hope and Hindutva as a message of Peace..
Last year I skipped shooting the Immersion of the Ganeshas at Girgaum Chowpatty, an on the spot impulsive decision to walk barefeet with Lal Bagh Cha Raja through all the lanes , bylanes till it reached Nagpada , where Lal Bagh Cha Raja is felicitated by the Muslim community, this was what I wanted to shoot , this holistic healing of two major faiths of India Hindus and Muslims....but I am human a diabetic the long walk on pebbles took its toll at Kumbharwada , I was totally beat, tired , dehydrated and I had broken my fast the same evening at Byculla..and the organizers , volunteers went out of their way to see and take care of me..they helped me each time I collapsed on the way..
At about 2 am I aborted the final destination of the Lal Bagh Cha Raja and headed home taking a taxi from Bhendi Bazar, but not before giving all the Sairi stuff to a lady beggar on the road..Sairi stuff is the fruits victuals given to me by the Hindu brethren to keep my next mornings fast.
Yes this is what I shoot emotions feelings that you must be able to see embedded as silence in the subjects of my picture..amity of Inter Faith.
Every picture I shoot has a long story to tell..
I allow you to fill in the blanks..in your mind ..beyond the nativity of my beleaguered comment box..
Ganesha Workshops Bandra West
I start a new set at my Flickr photo stream, the workshops at Bandra West where Lord Ganesha is sculpted , decorated and sold to the devotees for the Ganesha festival.
There are two workshops side by side , the first one next to the Jari Mari Temple on SV Road Bandra belongs to my friends Jeetu and Chintan, and the one next to them belongs to Kedar.
At the moment the huge Ganeshas have not yet been completed , work on them will start next week.
The sculptors and the workers are usually very excited when I come to shoot their workplace ..and I share my cultural inheritance with all of you without holding anything back..
Later I shall shoot the workshops of Lalbagh at Ganesh Gully , these workshops cater to all the big pandals where later Lord Ganesha will be installed.
After I finish shooting the workshops I shall begin shooting the pandals of Mumbai when Lord Ganesha will be installed and finally the Immersion ..the Gauri Immersion and the Ganesha Immersion..
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ganesha
Ganesha (Sanskrit: गणेश; IAST: Gaṇeśa; Ganesha.ogg listen (help·info)), also spelled Ganesa or Ganesh and also known as Ganapati, Vinayaka, and Pillaiyar, is one of the best-known and most widely worshipped deities in the Hindu pantheon.[5] His image is found throughout India.[6] Hindu sects worship him regardless of affiliations.[7] Devotion to Ganesha is widely diffused and extends to Jains, Buddhists, and beyond India.[8]
Although he is known by many other attributes, Ganesha's elephant head makes him easy to identify.[9] Ganesha is widely revered as the Remover of Obstacles[10] and more generally as Lord of Beginnings and Lord of Obstacles (Vighnesha, Vighneshvara),[11] patron of arts and sciences, and the deva of intellect and wisdom.[12] He is honoured at the start of rituals and ceremonies and invoked as Patron of Letters during writing sessions.[13] Several texts relate mythological anecdotes associated with his birth and exploits and explain his distinct iconography.
Ganesha emerged as a distinct deity in clearly recognizable form in the 4th and 5th centuries CE, during the Gupta Period, although he inherited traits from Vedic and pre-Vedic precursors.[14] His popularity rose quickly, and he was formally included among the five primary deities of Smartism (a Hindu denomination) in the 9th century. A sect of devotees called the Ganapatya, (Sanskrit: गाणपत्य; gāṇapatya), who identified Ganesha as the supreme deity, arose during this period.[15] The principal scriptures dedicated to Ganesha are the Ganesha Purana, the Mudgala Purana, and the Ganapati Atharvashirsa.
Ganesha has many other titles and epithets, including Ganapati and Vigneshvara. The Hindu title of respect Shri (Sanskrit: श्री; śrī, also spelled Sri or Shree) is often added before his name. One popular way Ganesha is worshipped is by chanting a Ganesha Sahasranama, a litany of "a thousand names of Ganesha". Each name in the sahasranama conveys a different meaning and symbolises a different aspect of Ganesha. At least two different versions of the Ganesha Sahasranama exist; one version is drawn from the Ganesha Purana, a Hindu scripture venerating Ganesha.[17]
The name Ganesha is a Sanskrit compound, joining the words gana (Sanskrit: गण; gaṇa), meaning a group, multitude, or categorical system and isha (Sanskrit: ईश; īśa), meaning lord or master.[18] The word gaņa when associated with Ganesha is often taken to refer to the gaņas, a troop of semi-divine beings that form part of the retinue of Shiva (IAST: Śiva).[19] The term more generally means a category, class, community, association, or corporation.[20] Some commentators interpret the name "Lord of the Gaņas" to mean "Lord of Hosts" or "Lord of created categories", such as the elements.[21] Ganapati (Sanskrit: गणपति; gaṇapati), a synonym for Ganesha, is a compound composed of gaṇa, meaning "group", and pati, meaning "ruler" or "lord".[20] The Amarakosha,[22] an early Sanskrit lexicon, lists eight synonyms of Ganesha : Vinayaka, Vighnarāja (equivalent to Vignesha), Dvaimātura (one who has two mothers),[23] Gaṇādhipa (equivalent to Ganapati and Ganesha), Ekadanta (one who has one tusk), Heramba, Lambodara (one who has a pot belly, or, literally, one who has a hanging belly), and Gajanana (IAST: gajānana) ; having the face of an elephant).[24]
Vinayaka (Sanskrit: विनायक; vināyaka) is a common name for Ganesha that appears in the Purāṇas and in Buddhist Tantras.[25] This name is reflected in the naming of the eight famous Ganesha temples in Maharashtra known as the Ashtavinayak (aṣṭavināyaka).[26] The names Vignesha (Sanskrit: विघ्नेश; vighneśa) and Vigneshvara (Sanskrit: विघ्नेश्वर; vighneśvara) (Lord of Obstacles)[11] refers to his primary function in Hindu mythology as the creator and remover of obstacles (vighna).[27]
A prominent name for Ganesha in the Tamil language is Pille or Pillaiyar (Little Child).[28] A. K. Narain differentiates these terms by saying that pille means a "child" while pillaiyar means a "noble child". He adds that the words pallu, pella, and pell in the Dravidian family of languages signify "tooth or tusk of an elephant", but more generally "elephant".[29] Anita Raina Thapan notes that the root word pille in the name Pillaiyar might have originally meant "the young of the elephant", because the Pali word pillaka means "a young elephant".[30]
Obstacles
Ganesha is Vighneshvara or Vighnaraja, the Lord of Obstacles, both of a material and spiritual order.[82] He is popularly worshipped as a remover of obstacles, though traditionally he also places obstacles in the path of those who need to be checked. Paul Courtright says that "his task in the divine scheme of things, his dharma, is to place and remove obstacles. It is his particular territory, the reason for his creation."[83]
Krishan notes that some of Ganesha's names reflect shadings of multiple roles that have evolved over time.[27] Dhavalikar ascribes the quick ascension of Ganesha in the Hindu pantheon, and the emergence of the Ganapatyas, to this shift in emphasis from vighnakartā (obstacle-creator) to vighnahartā (obstacle-averter).[84] However, both functions continue to be vital to his character, as Robert Brown explains, "even after the Purāṇic Gaṇeśa is well-defined, in art Gaṇeśa remained predominantly important for his dual role as creator and remover of obstacles, thus having both a negative and a positive aspect".[85]
[edit] Buddhi
Ganesha is considered to be the Lord of letters and learning.[86] In Sanskrit, the word buddhi is a feminine noun that is variously translated as intelligence, wisdom, or intellect.[87] The concept of buddhi is closely associated with the personality of Ganesha, especially in the Puranic period, when many stories stress his cleverness and love of intelligence. One of Ganesha's names in the Ganesha Purana and the Ganesha Sahasranama is Buddhipriya.[88] This name also appears in a list of 21 names at the end of the Ganesha Sahasranama that Ganesha says are especially important.[89] The word priya can mean "fond of", and in a marital context it can mean "lover" or "husband",[90] so the name may mean either "Fond of Intelligence" or "Buddhi's Husband".[91]
[edit] Aum
Ganesha is identified with the Hindu mantra Aum (ॐ, also called Om). The term oṃkārasvarūpa (Aum is his form), when identified with Ganesha, refers to the notion that he personifies the primal sound.[92] The Ganapati Atharvashirsa attests to this association. Chinmayananda translates the relevant passage as follows:
(O Lord Ganapati!) You are (the Trinity) Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesa. You are Indra. You are fire [Agni] and air [Vāyu]. You are the sun [Sūrya] and the moon [Chandrama]. You are Brahman. You are (the three worlds) Bhuloka [earth], Antariksha-loka [space], and Swargaloka [heaven]. You are Om. (That is to say, You are all this).[93]
Ganesh Chaturthi
Main article: Ganesh Chaturthi
The visarjan ceremony of Lord Ganesh during the Chaturthi festival in Hyderabad, India
An annual festival honours Ganesha for ten days, starting on Ganesh Chaturthi, which typically falls in late August or early September.[129] The festival culminates on the day of Ananta Chaturdashi, when images (murtis) of Ganesha are immersed in the most convenient body of water.[130] In 1893, Lokmanya Tilak transformed this annual Ganesha festival from private family celebrations into a grand public event.[131] He did so "to bridge the gap between the Brahmins and the non-Brahmins and find an appropriate context in which to build a new grassroots unity between them" in his nationalistic strivings against the British in Maharashtra.[132] Because of Ganesha's wide appeal as "the god for Everyman", Tilak chose him as a rallying point for Indian protest against British rule.[133] Tilak was the first to install large public images of Ganesha in pavilions, and he established the practice of submerging all the public images on the tenth day.[134] Today, Hindus across India celebrate the Ganapati festival with great fervour, though it is most popular in the state of Maharashtra.[135][136] The festival also assumes huge proportions in Mumbai and in the surrounding belt of Ashtavinayaka temples.

FROM THE DESK OF DR. WAHEED OMAN
AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT BANK(ADB)
54-56 RUE DE THOMSON, OUAGADOUGOU.
BURKINA FASO. WEST AFRICA.
TEL:00226 78036241.
Dear friend,
I am DR WAHEED OMAN, the accountant of African Development Bank (ADB). There is an account open in this bank in 1999 and since 2001 nobody has operated on this account again. After going through some old files in the records, I discovered that if I do not remit this money out urgently it would be forfeited for nothing.
The owner of this account is Mr. Morris Thompson, a foreigner, Business Man and a miner at Kruger Gold Company, a Geologist by profession and he died since 2000.No other person knows this account or anything concerning it, the account has no other beneficiary and my investigation proved to me as well that this company does not know anything about this account and the money involved is Thirty Six Million United States Dollars (US$36 Million).I want us to first transfer US$6 Million from this money into your safe overseas account before the rest. I am only contacting you as a foreigner because this money cannot be approved to a local bank here, but can only be approved to any foreign account because the money is in United States Dollars and the former owner Mr. Morris Thompson is a foreigner too. I know that this message will come to you as surprise as we don't know ourselves before. We will sign an agreement, but be sure that it is real and a genuine business.
You can view the web site bellow for more information on our late client.http://archives.cnn.com/2000/US/02/01/ alaska.airlines.list/I only got your contact information from Global Trade Agent under the BURKINA FASO Chamber of Commerce and Industrial; with believe in God that you will never let me down in this business, considering my position as a public servant. You are the only person that I have contacted in this business; so please reply urgently so that I will inform you the next step to take immediately. Send also your private telephone and fax numbers including the full details of your account to be used for the deposit. I want us to meet face-to-face and sign a binding agreement to bind us together so that you can receive this money into your account where the fund will be safe. And I will fly to your country for withdrawal and sharing and other investment.
Meanwhile,I am contacting you because of the need to involve a foreigner with foreign account and foreign beneficiary. I need your full co-operation to make this work fine because the management is ready to approve this payment to any foreigner who has correct information of this account, which I will give to you as soon as you indicate your sincerity to co-operate with me, and capability to handle such amount in strict confidence and trust according to my instruction and advice for our mutual benefit because this opportunity may never come again in my life.
I need a truthful and God fearing person in this business because I don't want to make a mistake so I need your strong assurance and trust. With my position in the office I don't want anything that will jeopardize my job so I advice that we should make secrecy and confidentiality our primary working condition, bearing in mind that I am a public servant. I will also use my position and influence to effect legal approvals and onward transfer of this money to your account with appropriate clearance forms of the ministries and foreign exchange department.
At the conclusion of this business, you will be giving 35% of the total amount, 55% will be for me, while 10% will be for expenses both parties might have incurred the process of the transfer.

The Hijra Menace on the Indian Trains
My wife is a very simple woman, she keeps to herself, but she is sensitive too,She has never been critical or insulting towards my photography of the hijras,She has actually been a good host along with my daughter Samiya when Laxmi Narayan Tripathi the quintessential hijra icon of India came over to our place with her chelas,
My wife went out of her way to extend the hospitality that we as Indians are famous for.
Actually Laxmi was worried about Samiyas views and inquired if she had upset my family with her sudden and unexpected presence, this was in a phone call to me , but Samiya spoke to her and told her , that the visit was an eye opener and hijras are after all human too.
On many a trips to Lucknow my wife has shot me with the hijras and my wife in her own right is a good photographer too.
She has seen a lot of personal pain, the pain of the '93 riots at Khar Dhanda where we lived and the apathy of the cops those days,to a situation that was very new to Mumbai.Specially in our case as we have lived amicably with our neighbors and it did not matter if someone was a Hindu a Christian or a Parsi.
But she forgives and moves ahead ,however this return trip from Lucknow, her parents live there, has put her off hijras completely , at Lucknow Char Bagh Station as Pushpak was leaving for Mumbai a group of hijras created havoc with the young kids going to Mumbai for work, they forcibly ill treated them ganged up,some threatening to bare their private parts all in a second class reservation bogey , the rest of the passengers kept mum, my wife was seething inside seeing this horrendous display of goondaism and hooliganism, and it is in collusion with the Railway cops as they are never around and who some allege are party to the profits of this extortion.
The kids were shaken up, their misery did not end even after each person had paid a sum of Rs 10,at Igatpuri another drunken group of hijras pounced on them and created havoc ,, but the Indian mindset is such that the passengers around the compartment are like eunuchs too not wanting to get into trouble,I think it is time the erstwhile dynamic Minister of the Railways Ms Mamta Bannerji took up cudgels for the travelers who pay for their tickets and are literally taken for a ride, this savagery should stop..its an insult and humiliation of a traveler , an Indian, going out in search of work.
All previous ministers have done nothing to eradicate this problem, this is a terror outfit that has made a persons journey hell.
I have nothing against hijras or hijras begging but forcefully demanding money is a crime and the railway cops turning a blind eye is a far greater crime.
Rehabilitating the hijra is thus important , bringing them into the mainstream so they can stand up on their own, and take up careers in self employment without the two options they normally have begging and prostitution, I speak of the poor grass root level hijra and not the affluent hijras who are million miles away from this depravity and degradation.
