Mount Mary Welcomes Her Loved One To Bandra Fair

The Basilica of Our Lady of the Mount, more commonly known as Mount Mary, is a Roman Catholic church in the city of Mumbai, India. The church is one of the most visited churches in the city located in the suburb of Bandra. Every September, the feast of Mount Mary is celebrated on the Sunday following 8 September, the birthday of the Virgin Mary. This is a week long celebration known as the Bandra Fair and is visited by thousands of people.

[edit] The Church
The church stands on a hillock about 80 metres above sea level overlooking the Arabian Sea. It draws lakhs of devotees and pilgrims annually. Many faithful attest to the miraculous powers of the Mount. During the Bandra Fair, tens of thousands visit the shrine. The shrine attracts people from all faiths who pray to the statue for thanksgiving or requesting of favours.

During the Bandra Fair, the entire area is decorated with festoons and buntings. Many pitch up stalls selling religious objects, roasted grams and sweet items. Stalls sell sticky Goan sweets and wax idols of the Virgin along with an assortment of candles shaped like hands, feet and various other parts of the body. The sick and suffering choose one that corresponds to their ailment and light it in Church, with the pious hope that Mother Mary will consider their appeals for help.

[edit] The statue of the Virgin Mary
Although the current church edifice is just 100 years old, the history behind the current statue of Our Lady goes back to the 16th century when Jesuit priests from Portugal brought the statue to the current location and constructed a chapel. In 1700 Arab pirates interested in the gilt-lined object held in the hand disfigured the statue by cutting off the right hand.

In 1760, the church was rebuilt and the statue was substituted with a statue of Our Lady of Navigators in St. Andrew's church nearby. This statue has an interesting legend. It goes that a Koli fisherman dreamt that he would find a statue in the sea. The statue was found floating in the sea between 1700 and 1760. A Jesuit Annual Letter dated to 1669 and published in the book St. Andrew's Church, Bandra (1616–1966) supports this claim.

Falling In Love Was My Original Sin

now languishing
in a lonely prison
her heart i could

I want to write an erotic poem to her which she has to read with her eyes closed while I lick her feet dry when she comes out of the shower..her dusky soul her musky body..and a teary towel that clings to her flesh in the last throes of death..

I try to shoot the soul of a man in pain

I lay on my back to take part in his ritual.. and I have taken a vow to pierce my cheeks , somehow it does not happen as the discipline to undertake this ritual is very strict ..

And I shall do it to show my solidarity to the Tamil Hindu , a race I have immense respect , they have treated me as their own.. but there are some issues I have to resolve before I partake it as humanbeing .. this is nothing to with religion , only my faith my spiritual endurance not bound to narrow mindedness or bigotry ,,, and I want my best friend Dr Glenn Losack to shoot my ordeal of pain , pain that I live with , pain that lives with me as my ancestral birthright..

Marriammen feast is a Tamil right of passage I shoot every year ..I try not to miss it , I shoot it barefeet and this year I shot at Juhu and Madraswadi Worli.

Davendra from Juhu Nehru Nagar is my best friend he pierces the rods and removes them too.

Shanmugham does it at Worli and both invite me much in advance no last minute calls ,, I go prepared mentally , physically ..

The strange anomaly of life people like my pictures of all faith but when it comes to pictures of my faith , pictures of blood gore Moharam than they get upset uneasy, and it makes no sense shooting blood in black and white ,,,and I have cut down Moharam .. just two main events out of Mumbai.. now because of storage problems at Flickr I shoot less , I resize my pictures through Fotosizer and than upload the same I shoot RAW and JPEG..

I would love to shoot film but it is sheer waste of time headache and burden on a empty pocket of a beggar poet ..

I love shooting the Malang documentary , and if I have money time I shall once again go back to Makanpur for the Urus of Zinda Shah Madar ,,

I love shooting the bullock cart races at Alibagh and Murud Janjira .

I love shooting beggars .. being a photographer was not enough I have imparted this creative art to my grandchildren too.. hoarding an Art makes no sense if you dont share it with others .

I used to love shooting Hijras transgender I have cut that down too ...no passion no interest at all..

The Lady With Two Faces

I met her while walking up the mountains to meet Dam Madar Baba Wahid , and I took a few shots , I was barefeet , so the terrain being rough , it gets difficult shooting pictures .. and she is a Muslim beggar...her distortion earns her a living she has children too I cropped from this frame.. this is portraiture of pain...bound to a cosmic chain.. ayn ..

At Ajmer and Tarahadh I have shot pain ,
the humility of pain , its quivering turbulence ..
why are people born like this i wonder
makes no sense..images that move me
as a poet a camera and a lens now
as a poem i try to pen ..sitting on a fence
my pictures are a story board ..painful
intense .. i was destined to shoot
without fear or consequence ..
i stand moderated in my defense

dedicated to my good friend John Dixon 'Howling Ayn,,
who left this world as it was too small for his achievements .

Sometimes I Bleed More At Facebook Than When I Cut My Head DuringMoharam..

In your opinion, what could Facebook do to help you understand reports we receive about your content?

I am a photoblogger journalist I am not into porn but I shoot reality rituals as I shoot all faith I have 285000 images at Flickr .com I think people there being photographers are more mature and understanding here at Facebook people add you to report you bully you if they dont like your reportage religion or faith .. I had deactivated my Facebook account twice because of this if this persists I will delete my account completely .. honestly I hate posting pictures at Facebook..

I can understand this firoze bhai .
do you think its a conspiracy against your hobby ?

Firoze Shakir No it is Yazidiyat in the guise ..of a person of my own faith .. I am not here to shoot as per any persons like dislike but I will not ridicule or make fun of what one shoots .. I guess honestly I am in all humility as an amateur hobbyist photographer incapable of shooting what others shoot .. I dont like posting my Shia images as they are graphic .. but the world has to know why we are persecuted shot murdered killed because we believe in the progeny of the Holy Prophet ,.. and the genocide at Karbala that could have been avoided but Terrorism exists in Islam.. it has always been there during the time of Imam Ali and Imam Hussain even now .. All I know iI dont glorify my faith , proselytize ..I shoot Christinaity Hinduism Shiasm Sufism.. Paganism... does not make me less human than a pagan..

Firoze Shakir I moderate my stuff ,, I have had problems at Flickr too my pictures are marked Safe ,.. yet Moharam is restricted and one has to be a member to see it and the Naga Sadhus at the Maha Kumbh I shot moderated because of frontal nudity ..I removed my transgender pictures 20000 because their hardship struggle was reduced to titillation voyeurism ..It is not easy shooting pictures holding or possessing a camera does not make one a photographer .. take care ..I dont want to discuss this anymore silence is the best medicine I deleted my pictures the moment I was informed that it was reported ,, I follow Facebook terms guidelines .. as I follow Flickr guidelines ...

Thank you All.. I hold nothing against anyone ,,the picture reported was a child with bleeding clothes ..but i think more than my harmless picture it was the words .. that must have hit  him in the guts,,,
