Dear Alexander John Dashwood

as long as you were alive
for your valor your commitment
to the British Empire you stood ,
you fought you died sorry mate
they have forgotten you for good
leaving you behind in Lucknow
lost illusions your lost childhood
of your returning  to England I am
sorry there seems to be no likelihood
as you dream of home in a box of wood
