neither man
nor yet a boy
nor yet a girl
hair in a twirl
on the streets
frolic and glee
with the hijra
she swirls
synchronously
gyrates
grooves
whirls a part
of her into
the cosmic
consciousness
of Shiva's
third eye
in my camera
she hurls
she was born
from the mouth
of an oyster shell
the pathos poetry
passion of a pearl
Blogging The Soul of The Hijra

Documenting the angst of the hijra allowing his esoteric nature of yore now to be read by all as human beings is the pristine pure essence of this blog.. I dont sell my hijra pictures I dont share my hijra pictures and my hijra pictures wont be seen in newspapers for obvious reasons we bloggers are not as yet considered serious photographers we are elbowed to a leprous corner of a gray zone of photography..
We have cameras we shoot poems and that hits them hard in the guts with with all their Mach 2 and high end cameras and lenses..
We will never be counted as photographers per se and hijras will never be allowed entry in the hallowed halls of photo blogs awards yes photography is elitist racist bigoted for more reasons than one..
Bloggers wont ever be part Press Club of India culture rights of admission reserved for dogs and bloggers says the imaginary board outside.. Sach Much Had Kar Di..
And without fancy gold embossed Press Cards the blogger dares and defies his cosmic fate robbing the soul of the hijra in the consciousness of his camera.
Shooting things as they are is the essence of a street photographer fuck perspective.. I have tried perspective placing the camera on the tits of a hijra and shot her pain down below in the cavernous region of her androgynous dilemma..and I am not into hijra sex but yes photography when it enters your soul makes you a poet too..some pictures I shoot for myself as a fine arts student and it helps.
Problem is in India Art and Fine Art is a demarcation do thin that there is a gossamer difference between erotica poetry are porn.. and I dont shoot porn at all.
I shot the man without balls and in the darkness of his soul he was nothing short of being a woman..so shooting hijras is not my bread or butter it is merely an exercise in honing my inner angst too of tangibly becoming aware of my own pulsating humanity too.
Above all .. street photography is humility without humility even God does not exist.. and because God did not create Hijras the belief that God is omnipotent omniscient increases the soul of mans poetry too...with relevance to God and androgynous spirituality and godliness .

Because I was shooting the young superman with hooks for hanging from a crane I missed Santosh hijras rod piercing but I have shot a lot of pictures of his piercings last year.. at the same place same event.
Most of the hijras from Govandi antop Hill Dharavi come to support Sanotosh hijra and they dance have fun till the procession reaches Kotaya Marriamman Temple at Sion Koliwada where all this comes to an end after the removal of the rods.
She Hooked Me Turned Her Back On Me
devastating
the soul
of my poetry
she left me
in the lurch
her touch
could have
set me free
but she used me
to ease her pain
passion pathos
an infinity
doomed deleted
cacophony
of sounds
of silence
eternity
sucked
in the vortex
of her deceit
to be or not to be
blinded eyes gouged
of my heart soul mind
nothing but visions

I just bought the domain name hijrasofindia.com from Vamanpeople ..Anil Shejale web developer web master , I surrendered hijda-eunuch.com it was too complicated and long.
And with due humility I have shot the hijras of India with sensitivity that comes from being a poet and sensibility that comes from being a human being.
I must reiterate I shoot hijras as simply as I see them, and I shoot them as a street photographer nothing more nothing less.
Shooting the hijras is about patience trust above all, the hijras should know and trust you .. I am lucky I get to meet hijras on the crossroads of the journey of my life.

I met Sona hijra first at the notorious hijra gully no 1 at Kamatipura it was my first outing to shoot the hijras and met Zeenath Guru too.
I also took my American friend Dr Glenn Losack MD out there but those days it was being refurbished and renovated.
I stopped going there and also stopped going to Peela House where I shot the exotic hijra queen Heena.
Sona is a very sensitive hijra and when she had a scuffle with another hijra who was dead drunk she was really upset , I pacified her seeing this the drunk hijra abused me too.
The hijra world is a narrow world within a world.
And it is this narrow linear world I shoot document to show the sensitive and human nature of the hijras.
That I have never shot Koovagam Eunuch festival at Villupuram does not really bother me I get to shoot hijras in Mumbai one way or the other.
I have what is called the Hijra Vardan I will meet hijras and be blessed by them and bless them in return too.
I meet hijras during Eid Moharam , Ganesh Durga visarjan and the urus circuit.. I meet Hijras on Facebook too.
Tongue Piercing..
Later the devi came on her and the trance lasted till the end of the procession at Kotaya Marriammen Temple Sion Koliwada

The Hijras Goddess Marriamman The Spiritual Connection
Hijras are believers and their spirituality should not be played down because of their sexual orientation , because they are both man and woman in a single form their sense of fatality is based on the androgynous mood of their minds souls and bodies.
The hijras have various gods and goddesses depending on the area they have their origins in , but not necessarily they may adopt other gods and goddesses too..
So in the South down below you have hijras paying allegiance to Lord Iravan ..at Koovagam Koothandavar temple near Villupuram close to Pudicherry.
In Gujrat you have Baichuramataji.. and in Maharashtra Karnataka Devadasis of Goddess Yellamma.
Goddess Marriammen is an avatar of Kali Durga and is goddess of fertility a very powerful goddess there are a lot of temples in honor of Goddess Marriamman all over the world important ones in Tanjore and Salem..
The hijra with the blue floral saree Mehak comes here because her guy pierces his cheeks and has hooks inserted in his back he pulls a trolly of coconuts.Mehak is very fond of me and is always posing for me she calls the shots her brother in law was drunk to the gills always pushing himself in my hijra pictures but I could do nothing about it,.
The hijra extreme right making eyes in red floral saree I met years back at Hijra Guly No1 Kamatipura she is Sona and later there was a huge street fight between her and another drunk hijra.. Sona was in tears and the drunk hijra abused me too.. later I met him when he had sobered down he fell at my feet cried and asked me to forgive him I shot his pictures..
I document the lives of the hijras so Sion Koliwada set is about hijras and their faith in Mother Marriamen.
There was a very pretty hijra teen Jyoti I shot her too..she too was from Nasik most of the hijras had their lovers toyboys along with them.. and drunks were in abundance at Sion Koliwada pinching their buttocks , grabbing their non existent tits and rubbing themselves piling on the hijras.. this is a street procession unavoidable situation scenario.
I first spotted the hijras at Mahim fishermen s colony and met Krishna hijra who takes an active part during the festivities than I met a dark dusy hijra here Anamika and hijras began paying tribute to Goddess Marriamen.
But it was last year I came to Sion Koliwada I met the hijras who came with a hijra from Nasik, Santosh hijra who takes part in the cheek piercings I shot him extensively last year, this year he was expected but had not arrived , these hijras too were waiting for him , I got busy shooting the other stuff and when I came back to the piercing stop Santosh had already pierced his cheeks , and I felt sad I could not shoot the ritual the pain and the pathos.
Later as I was totally drenched I shot stuff sleeping on the road I was real messy I removed my tshirt and was bare breasted till I came home.
There was a young hijra devadasi a very fabulous dancer she was the best.. sjhe kept the crowds entertained .. the hijra guru also danced jumping leaping in the air dressed in a sexy blood red saree.

that come
in abundance
my soul freeze
yes every woman
on this planet
sometime
or other time
is another
mans tease
touching him
untouching
him seductive
breeze
womans charms
her lethal weapon
man at her pedestal
on his knees
blows that wont
ever cease
wanting lust
to always
be pleased
my inner soul
infected
diseased
held captive
from the misery
of a rusty cage
she wont release

is stark
pathetic
filled
with
fear and pain
begging on
the streets
near the mosque
for a morsel
a handful of grain
inside the mosque
head bowed
in prayers
they invoke
allah
again and again
they ask
for more
ludicrously
gluttonously
ravenously
gifts
they must attain
they are the biggest
beggars including
the mullah
who on their behalf
with god bargains
on the soul of humanity
thunder clouds rains
they ask for everything
but forget
the greatest gift
ghame hussain
through
blood tears
our sorrow
in our hearts
remain
Kash Aisa Ho Sakta Tha
' To the world you may be one person but to one person you may be the world '
main tute hue
bigde hue dil
ko sab keh
sakta tha
kash woh sama
khab na banta
aur dil hi dil
main reh sakta tha
woh parayi amanat
ko apni amanat nahi
keh sakta tha
samajdar hota
aur ashiq nahi
toh shayad
main unka
dost bankar
es chehre jaisi
kitab par
reh sakta tha
jiski amanat thi
woh le gaya
baki jo bacha tha gutter
ki nali main beh gaya
hamara dukh hamara tha
hamari kismet se
juda wa reh gaya

On my left is Raja the piercer the swiftest most experience piercer and hook expert in rituals of Mother Marriamman.
He is well known , hardly talks to people does his work and is a professional to the core..
Sam Bhatia with the ever smiling face is a Punjabi event manager caterer but a devour Marriamman follower , he participaes in the rituals that are held on a different day, he wears the chattri umbrella like contraption with over 108 rods in his body and carries limes on hs back and arms held by needles .. 100 limes sewn to his flesh.
I have not attended his feast as yet..we met last year at Sion Koliwada and became good friends he keeps me informed about the feast at his end , last evening it was Sam who informed me of the celebrations and I was lucky enough to shoot it.
I shot this barefeet and this morning am in real bad shape..this is a long series it includes the piercings hook insertion , hijras taking part in this function , their dance, later the women carrying hot clay pots on the head and an extreme possession on the streets the devi came on a young girl , the chattris , and guys hanging on pulleys from a crane with hooks attached to both their bodies I shot this last year too.
This year I shot this event till the removal of the rods hooks and more possession within the Marriamman Temple of Sion Koliwada..known as Kota Marriamman of Salem.
The Hindu Tamils are very friendly people lovable and down to earth, they have great faith in Mother Marriamman and she is their hope and strength of their spirituality.
I am a Muslim but they treat me like one of their own and it is this unique quality of Mumbai's spiritual and religious and social pattern that I shoot and poetical on the soul of Humanity.
