Shah ast Hussain, Badshah ast Hussain
Deen ast Hussain, Deen Panah ast Hussain
Sardad na dad dast, dar dast-e-yazeed,
Haqaa key binaey La ila ast HussainAnd a rough translation -

Ruler is Hussain, Emperor is Hussain,
Faith is Hussain , guardian of faith is Hussain .
Offered his head and not the hand to Yazid.
Indeed, Hussain is the foundation of La-ilah (the declaration that none but God is Absolute and Almighty)

from the jaws
of death
he could have
been saved
but falling
in love
his world
crumbled caved
on his forehead
FUCK OFF
she engraved
though for
her heart soul mind
he did crave
love that came in
torrential waves
the pain of her
parting
he could no brave
he cut of his wrist
her Indian slave
bled to death
his last words
rant and rave
for the pain
that she
caused him
he forgave
king queen
cosmic knave
now lying
motionless
barefeet
sans jewels
sans breath
sullenly silent
a cosmic
poet in his grave

Sulaiman Bhai or Raja Mehmoodabad as he is known as is a noble man a devout Ashna Shari Shia (Twelvers) who becomes a commoner on Athvi the last day when two months eight days of Moharam come to an end..he walks with the procession on the streets of Mehmoodabad barefeet in the scorching sun, almost every one is barefeet and paying Akhri Salam and tribute to Imam Hussain...to the funereal sounds of the Shenai and an Amary with camels and old time traditional heritage of Shia eternal pain called Ghame Hussain.

I met the erstwhile Raja Saab a highly educated person , a poet erudite cultured man of letters but human , very human totally connected with his people and no pomp no pride just Ghame Hussain..through Advocate Mehmood Bhai of Mehmoodabad .

Even the Zuljana of Raja Mehmoodabad is very special nobody rides him , he is a very expensive Arab steed and is used in the procession during Moharam..

On Athvi he is let loose into the crowds and he charges into the replica of the Roza of Imam Hussain and bangs his head I am told I could only shoot a bit of him charging into the crowds..

I could not stay very long at Mehmoodabad as the same day I was rushing back to shoot the Athvi in Lucknow Nakhas and Kazmain.

So these are old posts that were without text I had updated today after many years and memories of Mehmoodabad are still alive is my misfortune I could never visit this place .. my brother in law Arif Abbas Qazilbash married a girl from an old family of Mehmoodabad none other but the daughter of the same Advocate Mehmood Bhai who had introduced me to the Raja of Mehmoodabad I could not even make it to his wedding ...

But I remember the words of her father Advocate Mehmood Bhai he said to me on phone before the nuptial affirmation , I give the hand of my daughter to your wife's brother because you love Mehmoodabad .. this is his greatness that he considered to give his blessings to the match.

I was touched by his humility and the honor he bestowed on me at the same time...

Time has passed my brother in law has a daughter Sakina who is aunt to my grand daughter Marziya Shakir 3 1/2 year old worlds youngest street photographer.

Raja Sahib of Mahmudabad
(1914-1973)

Raja Amir Ahmed Khan of Mahmudabad, well known as 'Raja Sahib of Mahmudabad', was a gifted disciple and trusted associate of Quaid-e-Azam at a very early age. He was born on November 5, 1914, educated at Lucknow and then in England. His father, Maharaja Sir Mohammad Ali Mohammad Khan (1877-1931), was a great landowner of the U.P. and a trusted friend of Quaid-e-Azam, who had presided sessions of the All-India Muslim League in 1917, 1918 and 1928.

Raja Amir Ahmed Khan succeeded to the estate Mahmudabad on March 23, 1931 on his father's death. At that time Mahmudabad was one of the richest estates of the Awadh. Raja Sahib was keenly interested in the Muslim renaissance and associated himself with the Muslim League at an early age. He was at one time the youngest member of the Working Committee of the All-India Muslim League. In 1937, he formed the All-India Muslim Students Federation, which mobilized the Muslim Youth for the cause of Islam and soon became vanguard of the Pakistan Movement. Under his able guidance, Muslim students spread throughout the sub-continent and most tenaciously organized the campaign of Muslim League candidates in the general elections, which eventually led to the establishment of Pakistan.

Raja Amir Ahmed Khan also served as Honorary Treasurer of the League for several years. He was a puritan and ascetic in personal life and placed all his wealth and ancestral estate at the disposal of Muslim League.

He migrated to Pakistan after Independence, but was disillusioned by the political turmoil and migrated to Iraq. Subsequently settling in London where he remained Director of the Islamic Culture Centre for some time. He died on October 14, 1973 in London and was buried at Mashhad, Iran.
