The Hijra Of Linking Road Shot By Marziya Shakir 4 Year Old

We were heading towards the Bandra Ganesha workshops and she recognized me as she begs in the daytime at Turner Road Traffic Signal , she was surprised to see my grand daughter with me and than I gave the camera to Marziya who took 3 shots , I am only showing you one as my hijra pictures are for restricted viewing ,, not for the general public on cyberspace..

She blessed Marziya Shakir, Marziya gave her Rs 50 from her pocket money , as she always carries money for beggars when she is with me.

And Marziya Shakir is a gifted child who shoots the pain of humanity, the children of a lesser God..

And Marziya Shakir shoots truth as she views it on the soul of her cosmic viewfinder of her third eye ..

Marziya Shakir 4 Year Old Shoots Bandra Ganesha Workshops

This is not new for Marziya Shakir, who has been shooting the Ganesha workshops since the age of 2..and as I had some work at Linking Road she accompanied me on my our way back I bought her to Ketan and Kedars CJ Art Workshop .

Most of the artisans know Marziya Shakir very well.. and are very fond of her ..

Marziya Shakir is very comfortable shooting on the ligter Canon EOS 60D though she prefers the much heavier Canon EOS 7D .

So this is a set as a Thank you for an award to her by fellow Indiblogger Murtuza Ali

His message to me for Marziya Shakir

Greetings!

Dear Firoze Sir,

I really admire Marziya's (as well as yours) work, and hope and pray that her name soon enters the Guinness World Records as the youngest street photographer in the world :-)

As a small token of appreciation I have awarded you a Liebster. Collect it here: www.apotpourriofvestiges.com/2012/08/a-potpourri-of-vesti...

I tried posting it at her blog but it seems that I don't have the necessary permission for it.

Regards,
Murtaza Ali

Though we politely refused the Award we did suggest Murtuza to give it to a guy in Delhi who needs it more than her for promoting gunculture in India ..and who considers children shooting on professional cameras as something Silly.

St Stanislaus High School in Bandra celebrates 150 years

www.hindustantimes.com/India-news/Mumbai/St-Stanislaus-Hi...

The school was founded in 1863 by the German missionary fathers of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits), making it one of the oldest schools in the city. Its alumni include Olympians such as Leo Pinto and Francis Demello; former Indian hockey captain Viren Rasquinha and Bollywood actors Salman, Arbaaz and Sohail Khan.

"It was wonderful to see our ex-students feeling nostalgic about their school days. I hope I can meet their expectations and transform our school into one that provides first class education," said Fr Jude Fernandes, principal.

The inaugural event took place on the feast of St Ignatius of Loyola. The event saw Indian musician Shaan, an alumnus, singing the school anthem, which had a special verse for the 150 year celebration, along with the choir and some ex-students. ‘Natus Ad Maiora: 150 years and beyond’, a 10-minute film on the school’s legacy and achievements was also screened

The guest of honour, Sunil Kaushal, chief executive of Standard Chartered Bank's India and South Asia operations and ex-student, released commemorative coins. To continue the celebration through the year, the school has planned a series of other events as well.

The school is also hoping to introduce the International Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) system which will run parallel to the SSC curriculum. The proposal has been sent to the Jesuit board for approval, after which they will approach the Cambridge board

Appu and Me

There was nobody around that looked the type who would shoot me and Appu, this was shot by a coconut vendor, I told him to take two frames just in case..

He has never held a camera in his hand but he is as fond of Appu as you and me..I did tell him you were coming to Mumbai in Dec or Jan.. that pleased him a lot..

So Glenn finding Appu at Mahim was a great moment of joy.. and these pictures are all dedicated to you..they ae all shot rapidly without composing or without coming close, Appu has a handler who felt that I was being a nuisance - rightly so, this is business hours for Appu The handler was not rude but pragmatic as a large crowd makes traffic snarls and then the cops come in and he might lose this space , begging space tooo comes at a premium at St Michael Church Mahim, they have to pay hafta or protection money to the local goon as well as the system.

Its the first time Appu told me he was an Assamese .. dont broach him with questions I dont ask him personal details but somebody should do a documentary on him..and pay him too..

Money is important to Appu..he has sisters and a family a mother too.

So Appu is a Muslim trying to touch the Soul of Jesus Christ at St Micheal Church, he does touch the good people that come here for Novena on Wednesday.

And Appu was fasting to like a good Muslim..

This was shot many years back close to Wazirganj Lucknow I was with my mother in law Wassim Qazilbah, I could not give him a miss I stopped our cycle ricksha made my reluctant mother in law pose for him , she does not like street spectacles specially with a son in law who calls himself Shia Pandit and Shia Hindu ..and dresses and looks like one influenced sartorially by the Naga Babas of Junagadh Akhada.

And this was much before I became a Dam Madar Mang Ali Haq ..

The Jhaptat Street photographer was a humble kindly man and I have never forgotten him I still have the tiny picture he shot of me as keepsake memory..

There was a huge crowd as my brother in law shot these pictures and strangely I never went back to Lucknow ever again the city of my birth but not my karmic destination or karmic destiny..

Mumbai made me a Pucca Mumbaikar ..my genes my DNA firmly bound to Jai Maharashtra .. could never imagine ever living in any place but Mumbai...

And this was a textless post but inspired by the blog of fellow Indiblogger Umashankars Tented Image I added my two bits here ..

And most of my images need no text, they speak the silence of my visual poetry.. I have no mental blocks not as a blogger or a poet but never as a photo blogger .

I can confidently etch words at any given time make old pictures new bring them forward by changing the EXIF data as I have done here and add topicality to an old post.

And in all humility 238,702 items / 2,007,991 views is my bloggers long journey at Flickr.com that began on 10 June 2007..

Deepak Magic Eye another Indiblogger introduced me to Flickr in 2005 an account that I deleted soon after...we had met at Fotohing and Deepak is my oldest friend supporter guide on the internet..

My 4 year old grand daughter Marziya Shakir is net savvy, knows her blogs , and shoots like a Pro without intimidation from guys with beter cameras lenses and attitude too..she perhaps shoots silly pictures but they speak the language of wisdom and street sauciness .

The one year old blogger waiting in the wings street photographer Nerjis Asif Shakir shoots pictures like her sister Marziya Shakir, but she hits the shutter while I hold the Canon EOS 60D for her .
I tried to make her shoot with the Manfrotto tripod but the tripod in its normal state is taller than her and I hate to reach on tripods holding the camera with the strap around your neck ..is photography..
Nerjis Asif Shakir is a born street photographer ..with a cosmic eye that shoots pictures much faster than the Canon EOS 60D .

So sometimes reading another persons blog adds a continuity to his blogpost too..
Thank you Umashankar.

The Awakeners are an integral part of the slum Muslim or even a normal Muslims life during Ramzan carrying a small torch and and a stcik to keep away barking dogs in the slums they move around an hour or more before Sairi time shouting Jago Sairi Ka Time Hone Ja Raha Hai....wake up for  starting the fast .

Most of the daily workers depend on them , and for their services they collect bakshhesh on Thursday mornings or weekdays from house to house.

I was taking Nerjis Asif Shakir my grand daughter in the slums to distribute money to the poor and than I met them.. Nerjis was happy to pose with them as she wakes us up during Sairi time .. I am under medication for stones in my gall bladder so I have to drink a lot of water and hence unable to keep the rozas..
But I shall as soon as I finish my medicinal course ..I fell like a fish out of water or rather a fish in water as all are fasting at home save my granchildren and me ..

Ramzan and The Spirit of Charity - Nerjis Asif Shakir 1 Year Old

First it was her sister Marziya Shakir who gave her pocket money to the Umbrella Lady of Bandra Reclamation , and now Nerjis Asif Shakir follows the tradition during Ramzan.

Does she know the meaning of Charity .. What does she know of Poverty Pain but she has been exposed to pain and it is this pain the physicality of pain she will shoot as a street photographer .

Yesterday l bought her a bird cage and a pair of munias , I dont like keeping birds but Nerjis Asif Shakir loves crows and feeds them too from our window crumbs of bread .

Idd Mubarak Muslim Beggar Woman

The only person who never celebrates Idd back to back is the poor Muslim beggar woman I shoot after I shoot the Idd Namaz..

Idd Mubarak says the
Muslim beggar Woman
celebrating Idd on the kebside
rich poor the living dead
hidden sorrow within the hijab
within layered folds hide
man woman mullah
Islam
a great divide
the Jihad against Ignorance
taken for one big ride
a wound since generations
a wound open wide
Muslim women chattel
a commodity a plastic bag
biodegradable voice muffled
hands tied
only Allah her steering wheel
of a ramshackled human legs
as Guide
yes she was first a girl child
mother divorced after warming his
hearth as a bride
nothing but ripped flesh scars
her womanly shame
her womanly disgraced pride
many a nights soaking her
soul with molten tears she cried
she is husk blown by time and a bad tide
before she was born her spirit
within the amniotic fluid
had curled and died
