MUMBAI: Many would be curious to know what Azaan Sami's music is like. On 8 September at Mumbai's Hard Rock Cafe, the media got a peek into the 15 year old's music which will be a part of his forthcoming album. The track, a dedication to his grandfather, is a sad number composed, written and sung by Azaan.

According to Sony Music India managing director Shridhar Subramaniam, it's Very rare in the business to find talent that sings, composes, writes, performs their own music.

At the launch, Azaan also performed a small piece of a Beethoven Symphony. After his performance, Adnan Sami, a virtuoso piano player himself, was asked to give his critical feedback, "He has got the chops," he said. Adnan Sami says he discovered Azaan's talent when he came to him one day with a CD which had his own compositions, "I was blown away after hearing that," said the proud father.

Interacting with the media, Azaan Sami said his father has always been supportive, "It happens so many times that I go to him three am in the morning, and say, 'I have composed something, what do you think?' sometimes he turns around and says, 'Don't let anybody hear this..' but then there also have been times where he has got up from his sleep and run to the piano saying, 'I have to work with you on this." Azaan also added that he is not influenced by his father, "I was not there with him for 10 years," he said.

Like any other father, Adnan appeared critical about his young son - be it about music or things other than that, "You better know how to place the 'mic'," he shot at Azaan, while he moved his hands a little too often while speaking to the media.

"I want him to find his own direction," added Adnan, "If he ends up doing something similar to what I am doing, then he will not be able to create his own niche and move forward. I want him to create his own identity rather than just being my son who happens to have entered the industry just becasue I am a part of it."

Azaan Sami will be working on his first Bollywood assingment and composing a track for filmmaker Priyadarshan's forthcoming film Bum Bum Bhole which is slated to release this December.
