The Changed Avatar of a Once Barefeet Beggar Poet of Mumbai

Shooting Hope and Hindutva As A Message of Peace And Humanity

I asked an artisan to take this shot ..at Uday Khatus Ganesha Workshop at Chinchpokli a few blocks away from Ganesh Gully Lalbagh .

I was very tired because of my sleeveless jacket I was feeling hot too and this was all shot on a very humid and terribly hot day... 31 August 2012 daytime.

The Beggar Poets Grave Being Exhumed To Find Out The Cause Of Death

was it food poisoning
overdose of pesticide
they dont know hurriedly
buried in oxymoron haste
for magic eye a tragic blow
a positive spam on facebook
twitter he had to go on
his timeline his links his woes
his pictures at pinterest
rows and rows a beggar
poet known seldom as shakir
simply as firoze who shot
garbage beggars scavengers
bazar road crows his grave
close to jesus s cross where
a gutter weeps as it overflows
demystifying the soul of photography
two little street photographers
in a garden where his heritage grows
a poetic pause . silting prose
being woken up once
again from his deep repose
in the arms of poesy
a nubile neck cleopatras nose

I was dog tired by the time I reached Mr Rawles Ganesha workshop at Lalbagh Ganesh Gully ,and I removed my shoes outside the workshop, at first the artisans did not recognize me till I spoke In Marathi..and than Mr Rawle came in I asked the same arisan to take a shot of us this was shot by him.

I was less adventurous shooting the workshop and I had invited my friend Deepak Magic Eye but he had guests for lunch..

Behind me the Silhouette of Lord Ganesha guarded me ..happy to that I had come to share his Asmita with the rest of the Google Searching World.

Sunil Joshi And Me At Lalbagh 2012

First time I went dressed as a normal man and this has nowadays become my dress code 8 months working for another man .. a Guru too changed my life my sartorial serendipity.

Sunil Joshi and Raju Langewal of the Lalbagh Chya Raja Pandal are my two oldest friends through them the Lord gives me his royal darshan.

And I love shooting Lalbagh Chya Raja as well as the street life in and around his pandal.

The vegetable sellers the stores in the complex all dd to the tapestry of my street photography.

What I see is perhaps not the same as a photographers sees , do photographers really see ,, what they see is through the camera in all humility I see the world through the cosmic eyes of a street poet.
My pictures are illusory.. I shot them through the perspective of poetry.. If I had money I would buy the best camera best optics but I am happy shooting with what I have ...

Before I buy anything I have to pay off a few frends that helped me when I fell face forward when times were bad..

I dont have a car I dont like cars two wheelers I use public transport mostly rickshas in Bandra and cabs for town.

It was from here I walked ahead shot the Gauri store ..

Gauri is the Hindu Goddess of purity. She is an avatar of the Goddess Parvati. When Parvati first sought out Shiva to seduce him, Shiva found her dark skin to be unattractive. Parvati retreated into the forest, where she lived a very austere life, developing her spiritual powers. Brahma took notice of Parvati’s mastery of her physical self, and decided to grant her one wish. Parvati asked that her dark skin be taken away, so that Shiva would love her. Brahma took the darkness and created the Goddess Kali with it, leaving Parvati with golden skin, and she became the Goddess Gauri.

Gauri is usually depicted with light or golden skin. Because of her color, she is also associated with rice and grains, taking on the role of a fertility Goddess. Gauri’s name means “golden,” and her 108 name hymn includes the following names:

Goddess Gauri at Lalbagh 2012

Every year I come to Lalbagh to shoot the hustle bustle before Lord Lalbagh Chya Raja arrives at his Pandal.. and so I shot Prakash Bros who stock Gauri, the largest collection of Gauri in Mumbai.

I met Sunil Joshi honchos of Lal Bagh Chya Raja Pandal and my dear friend Raju Langewal at the Lal Bagh Chya Raja Mandal office .... from here I headed to Ganesh Gully I shot the various Ganesha workshops and that of Uday Khatu at Chinchpokli .. from Chinchpokli I took a cab to town for some official work.

Shooting the streets as usual.. its been a very tiring day away from my laptop and the Internet.
