Hijra Renaissance

hijra renaissance
haji malang
drum beats and dance
hijra life to glance
hijra
a travesty of gender
luck by chance
in between two lines
a unique
unusual romance

Hijra in Red at Haji Malang

atop a drum
at haji malang
the hijda in red
high strung
the crowds
in ecstasy
shrieking
shouting
their lungs
money
excitedly
on the hijra
they flung
dance
the epitome
of the hijras
mother tongue
just rhythmic beats
lyricless rhapsody
a moment tantalizingly
unsung

For quite some time, I have not seen hijras, after Reshma Hijras wedding dance event, but for the last two days on my way to Lokhandwala Andheri, I met them yesterday at the 4 Bunglow signal and today at the 7 Bunglow signal..

And I shot their pictures I have not posted yet..hijras intrigue people, I know people who hate hijras as they would their worst enemy..and yet Hijras are human and one has to see them humanly..to understand their angst , the ambiguity of their gender..

The Hijra is born of pain..however hard he tries to impersonate a woman..he still lacks the reproductive powers of a woman..he is in a conundrum, neither man nor woman...an androgynous anomaly...stalked by a photo blogger whose soul is embedded in the microcosm of the hijras life..
